Mentoring is an excellent, focused, and practical way to expand your knowledge, insights, and professional skills. Many membership organisations provide mentoring initiatives for their members because they deliver a clear "win-win-win" outcome:
- Win 1: Members gain practical support and insights from one another.
- Win 2: More established members can "give back" by volunteering as mentors.
- Win 3: The combination of these factors boosts member value, engagement, and advocacy.
To ensure the MemberWise Network has capacity to advocate mentoring we have two dedicated MemberWise Ambassadors who champion this crucial topic:
- Victoria Withy: Head of Membership, Communications and Marketing. Meet Victoria…
- Paul Roberts: Director of Membership, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Meet Paul…

Programme Impact and Recent Updates
Since 2018, the network has hosted a popular, free mentoring programme via the MemberWise Connect online community, delivered in partnership with Higher Logic.
This platform has successfully enabled over 200 professionals to establish online mentoring relationships.
This year, MemberWise Chair Rich Gott and the Mentoring Ambassadors evaluated the current scheme ahead of planned marketing activities in Q3 and Q4. Their recent work focused on:
- Quality assuring the existing scheme.
- Reviewing communications and support collateral.
- Increasing automated support communications for both mentors and mentees.
"We launched the scheme ahead of and during the COVID-19 Pandemic and in more recent years has seen hundreds of early-career professionals gain valuable insight/knowledge that simply is not available from any other source within the membership and association sector. It’s a great example of how we actively support members to develop/grow and I look forward to celebrating the programme’s 10th anniversary in 2028!" Rich Gott, MemberWise Chair
How to Participate
If you want to take part in the MemberWise Mentoring Programme, the process is straightforward:
- Free Registration: Prospective mentors and mentees can register for the online programme at no cost.
- Tailored Matching: Members submit the specific types of insight or knowledge they want to achieve or improve, and these requirements are matched.
- Open Browsing: A Free/Open Search feature is also available, allowing prospective mentees to browse and find a mentor on their own.
